23. Quartiere la Motta (the Motta quarter)

Via Magoria leads into Vicolo alla Motta and the suburb of the same name behind the Collegiata before climbing up to Montebello castle. The existence of a well in the middle of the Motta quarter is documented by the Ursuline nuns, who took up residence there in 1730, whilst awaiting completion of their convent, the present-day seat of the Cantonal Government.
