12. Castello di Montebello
An example of a “rivellino” or outwork, the only one still standing in Bellinzona today and almost entirely rebuilt during the 1903 restoration of Montebello Castle. A drawbridge over the outer moat provides access to the outwork. The castle itself is further protected by another moat and a second drawbridge. A row of bricks in the wall indicates the part that was rebuilt.
